Electronic Pathology Reporting (Epath)

The ICR works with Commission on Cancer Program hospitals and freestanding laboratories across the state of Iowa to provide them with a software application developed and owned by Inspirata. The NCI/SEER program provides the software to the facility at no cost. The software identifies reportable cancers by scanning electronic pathology reports. These reports assist the registrar with casefinding and help reduce hospital and laboratory labor costs. The digital pathology reports are sent to the ICR via a secure electronic file transfer system. This mechanism meets the requirements for rapid reporting of cancer and helps assure completeness in reporting cancer in the Iowa population.
